Sugar Pie’s
Seven Great Teachings

~ The First Great Teaching ~

LOVE

The thing I taught my Mom was Love — pure, clean, uncluttered Love.

My Mom was always kind to me, and genuine kindness can only come from a loving heart. My Mom has a loving heart, and I have a loving heart, too. She loved loving but she didn’t like all the clutter and pain that so often goes with it. But she loved me and she loved that I loved her. So we had it going both ways in a really mellow way. She learned that from me.

Everyone has a loving heart, Sugar. Don’t you think?

Yeah, but not all love is uncluttered and there’s the rub. Humans get mentally involved in everything, including, and maybe even especially love, so their relationships get into a mess really fast.

Unlike humans, cats have so many instincts they don’t have much of a chance to get mental about things like that. Some dude who‘s hanging out in a cat body may have what Mom calls “the power of choice” but it’s a moot point. All the instincts tend to upstage everything else and the ability to get mental is overpowered by the instincts. This is a situation in which limitations can be an advantage (now there’s an idea!). I don’t have to think about love, I just love. No mental involvement, just love. Period. My Mom learned this from me.

My Mom didn’t have to be any certain way for me to love her, and I didn’t have to be any certain way for her to love me. It was uncluttered and uncomplicated. It was just pure love.

Now, anyone who says to you that cats aren’t capable of love is missing a marble; maybe a whole bunch of marbles. Cats, and other critters, too, can and do love. It’s really easy for them. It’s harder for humans because of all the mental stuff that gets wrapped around their ideas and their emotional reactions.

Let me be clear here. Love is not an emotion. It can be emotional in its expression, but it is not of itself, an emotion. It’s just one way (probably the best one) “the really smart stuff” expresses between Beings.

The problems come when Beings (especially humans) get in the way of Its doing Its own natural thing.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:
I had Mom make the “I” in “Its” (“the really smart stuff”) big the way humans make the “G” in “God” big, because “the really smart stuff” is “God” in Life anyway. Like God is God, but God is expressing, and that expression is Life. (Whew!)

Frankly, Sugar Pie, you did a very good job with that. That’s difficult material to try to get into print. I bow at your holy paws.

Genuine kindness comes from a loving heart.
Genuine kindness is an act of LOVE.
When LOVE is uncluttered, it’s the real thing!

LOVE is not an emotion, but it can be emotional in its expression.

Seeing the one behind the packaging is an act of LOVE. (And yes, I know I already said that once, but I thought it was worth repeating.)

Critters have lots of instincts. Humans have hardly any at all (except for a few early on).
Without a lot of instincts, human minds develop the ability to think and figure things out and exercise choice-making and lots of other things. Sometimes all this can clutter things up.
