For many years she lived in solitude meditating more than eight hours each day and studying ancient Sanskrit writings. Her amazing gift for comprehending the inner meanings of these great works, and her own meditative experience have given rise to her extraordinary grasp of the spiritual path. Since meeting her spiritual master more than 20 years ago, she has dedicated her life to the study and practice of her path. The essence of these teachings is the unveiling of the natural state of eternal happiness of each individual. They do not preclude or replace religion or science, but expose their deeper meanings and lead the seeker to greater understanding.
Although Durga Ma’s teaching lineage predates known history by several thousand years, her many years of study and experience have equipped her with an extraordinary ability for refining ancient teachings for access to a modern world without sacrificing essentials and authenticity. She stresses empowerment through conscious choice, and personally tailors her guidance to meet each person’s needs and aims. Realizing that most spiritual and religious writings and oral teachings have traditionally been carried by and addressed to men, she interprets these teachings for women in current time in Western culture. Her students represent various religions as well as those seeking Truth outside organized religion. To read more about Durga Ma's philosophy, read the "Principles" of the Circle of Life Fellowship.
"When I was ushered into Durga Ma's private room, I had no idea I was going to receive the next initiation. What was revealed to me was the kind of thing that is so obvious, no one would ever think of it. At first I was in shock. On one hand, it was so simple I couldn't believe it. On the other hand, it changed everything. "I felt honored and a little dumbfounded. My world had forever been changed. I felt mature and immature at the same time. It was like I was old and young all at once. Thinking about it made me dizzy. "I was almost numb driving home that day. The revelation was running around in my head, and apparently it was having more than just a metaphorical affect on me. As I drove my minivan on the toll road towards home, all the electrical door locks began locking and unlocking uncontrollably. The circuits had literally blown out the door locks! How much more symbolic can you get? "I mean, I was blown away, but my car, too? It was too much. I had to replace all the door locks in the van. And in another way, all the locks in my life were blown away, too. Thank you, Durga Ma." Rupa (Diane R.)
The Ancient Masters taught Four Fundamental Aims of Life: dharma (living in harmony with Truth), artha (prosperity), kama (pleasure and happiness), and moksha (liberation). These four aims are best known today as a sequence: If you live harmoniously with the Divine, you can attain and maintain wealth. With wealth, you can enjoy life. When you’ve had enough, you seek liberation from rebirth. But there is another way of looking at this. The Four Aims of Life also express the direction in which Life itself is aimed. The literal definition of the word for the Divine/God in Sanskrit, Brahman, is “growth, evolution, increase, and expansion.” As an expression of the Divine, Life itself is divine, and as such, has these same characteristics. Life will advance, and so will we. This is inevitable.
Life expresses its divinity as and through each of us to the degree that we live in alignment with the Divine, attain and maintain wealth, experience happiness and enjoyment, and find freedom. Not only are we are most content when we do not resist the current of Life toward these aims, but we perform the highest service to the world by their fulfillment. This advancing movement in the relative realm of this world is a natural characteristic of the Divine.
Durga Ma teaches meditation that is non-forceful and suits itself to the individual. She guides students desirous of determining the type of meditation to which they are most suited by the sequential exploration of various kinds of meditation, beginning with five fundamental, easy to practice, meditation techniques. This is followed by experiences and related experiments in effective meditation without the use of techniques. In the next phase, Empowerment Meditation is explored. This meditation was developed by Durga Ma to engage your fundamental power of choice (“free will”) in the context of meditation. Through it, you increase your ability to access your own power while at the same time, discovering the kind of meditation that is most natural for you in your current phase of spiritual growth. At this point, students either take up their quest on their own, delegate Durga Ma as their guide, or are provided with guidelines for shopping for a teacher of their choice.
Spontaneous Experiential Meditation Surrender Meditation is a spontaneous, experiential meditation in the tradition of shaktipat kundalini yoga. This is the meditation to which Durga Ma has dedicated her life. Surrender Meditation is the means by which non-technique meditation can be taken to the deepest level. Surrender Meditation is the ultimate expression of natural meditation. Surrender Meditation is under the direction of the Divine, and therefore completely safe and supremely effective. Meditation happens automatically. Kundalini awakens safely on its own. The chakras unfold and are pierced, purified, and evolved naturally.
The path of surrender allows for the spontaneous awakening, or activation, of kundalini, the evolutionary force. Surrender Meditation provides conditions in which this natural unfoldment can happen safely and effectively with minimal distraction and disruption of the process.
